Our 
Story

Cancer Communicator was founded by Sara Fagerlie, PhD, CHCP in order to facilitate the delivery of critical advances in the care of patients with cancer. 

 

Dr Fagerlie has extensive experience in cancer research, medical news, and developing curricula and education materials for hematology/oncology healthcare professionals.

Dr Fagerlie is a current member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEHP), International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), and Association of Health Care Journalists (AHCJ).

Dr Fagerlie began her career in academic research studying the interactions between myeloid and lymphoid cells in Fanconi anemia at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Knight Cancer Institute in Portland, Oregon and the bone marrow microenvironment in the Transplantation Biology Department at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.

In 2007, Dr Fagerlie moved to accredited medical education. Since then, Dr Fagerlie has been a leader in the field, developing hematology and oncology curricula for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals caring for patients with cancer. Dr Fagerlie’s prior roles in medical education include Director of Scientific Services at Educational Concepts Group and Senior Director at Medscape Education where she led the US and Global hematology/oncology content development teams. Dr Fagerlie also served as a Director of the Snohomish School District from 2016 through 2023.

Dr Fagerlie earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in molecular and medical genetics from OHSU and Bachelor of Science degrees in biochemistry and mathematics from the University of Washington. In 2013, Dr Fagerlie became a Certified Healthcare CPD Professional (CHCP).

Dr. Fagerlie remains at the helm of Cancer Communicator, dedicated to reducing clinical gaps in cancer care and barriers to optimal care for all patients with cancer through delivery of clinical information utilizing modern technology and contemporary communication channels.
